CAF Safety Chief Emeruwa Proud of Sportsville Award Nomination

The Head of Safety and Security at the Confédération Africaine de Football CAF), Christian Emeruwa, has expressed gratitude for his nomination for the Sportsville Special Recognition Award.

Dr Emeruwa was named in the Achievers’ category in the list released on Monday by the organisers in Lagos.

In a message addressed to the organisers, Emeruwa described the recognition as a great honour and a reflection of the collective efforts of professionals working to strengthen safety and security in football across Africa.

“I acknowledge with sincere appreciation my nomination for the Sportsville Special Recognition Award 2026. I am truly honoured and humbled by this recognition,” Emeruwa stated,

He also commended the organisers for their commitment to celebrating individuals and institutions contributing to sports development in Nigeria, noting that platforms such as the Sportsville help highlight important but sometimes overlooked aspects of sports administration.

He added that the recognition goes beyond personal achievement and underscores the work being done by many stakeholders to improve safety standards at football venues across Nigeria and the African continent.

“It is gratifying to know that the collective efforts of my colleagues and me towards improving safety and security standards in football across Nigeria and Africa are being noticed and valued,” he added.

The Sportsville Special Recognition Award is presented annually to individuals who have made notable contributions to sports development, administration and governance in Nigeria and beyond.

The 2026 edition, to be chaired by Dr Larry Izamoje, is slated for March 28th in Lagos.
