Edo Queens continued their impressive unbeaten run in the Nigeria Women Football League Premiership with a dominant 2-0 home win over Nasarawa Amazons on Matchday Five.
Early first-half goals from Mary Mamudu and Goodness Osigwe ensured the Benin-based side claimed all three points in front of their home fans who had just enjoyed Bendel Insurance’s 1-0 win over Enyimba.
Speaking after the match, Edo Queens’ head coach, Moses Aduku, acknowledged the challenge but remained confident in his team’s performance.
“It was not an easy battle. You just spoke to my ‘oga’ (Christopher Danjuma). We took our chances, although not all our chances. 2-0 is okay. The work is not yet done,” Aduku said.
Speaking ahead of their next match, Aduku exuded confidence.
“Confluence Queens have lost some games on that ground; ours should not be an exception”
Edo Queens, who made three changes from the side that secured a 1-1 draw in Lagos, wasted no time in asserting their dominance. In the 23rd minute, Mary Mamudu capitalized on a well-placed pass from Emem Essien and fired past former Edo Queens goalkeeper Udoka Unachukwu to open the scoring.
Just two minutes later, Goodness Osigwe doubled the lead with a stunning curler from outside the box, leaving the Nasarawa Amazons’ goalkeeper, with no chance.
Both teams pushed forward in search of more goals, but strong defensive displays ensured no further changes to the scoreline. The Benin Ladies are placed second on the NWFL Group A log.
