The Nigeria Senior male Cricket national team, the Yellow Greens had an electrifying start to the 2023 edition of the ‘West Africa trophy’ Cricket tournament on Wednesday at the TBS Cricket Oval in Lagos, Nigeria where they defeated Rwanda by 54 Runs.
The first innings which lasted for exactly 100 minutes saw Nigeria batting first after the toss. Nigeria recorded 127 runs for the loss of 8 wickets at the end of 20.0 overs in the first engagements.
Ajekun Daniel had the highest number of runs for the yellow Greens with 28 runs, while the Captain, Okpe Sylvester followed with 20 runs for 16 balls.
Rwanda needed to fight to beat the target set by Nigeria in the second innings, but the yellow Greens restricted them to just 73 runs when all wickets were lost in 18.1 overs played.
Nigeria had Udekwe Chiemelie and Peter Aho who bowled 4 wickets and 3 wickets respectively to thank for their beautiful bowling performance in the second innings.
Orchid Tuyisenge on the other hand, had Rwanda’s highest runs with 24 runs off 27 balls.
Udekwe Chiemelie of the Yellow Greens was named player of the match.
The ‘West Africa trophy’ Cricket tournament will witness top Cricket matches from four West African countries namely: Nigeria, Sierra Leone, Ghana and Rwanda.
Ghana defeated Sierra Leone by 3 wickets in their own fixture later in the day.
The yellow Greens will be back to action on Thursday morning against Sierra Leone at 10 a.m.
