The UBTH Inter-Professional Veterans football championship match week one continued with First Bank FC losing to Edo Coaches FC on Tuesday evening.
The first half was intense, with Edo Coaches FC creating plenty of scoring opportunities but were not clinical enough to find the back of the net. Meanwhile, First Bank FC showed flashes of brilliance, showing they are still in the game and could cook up a goal. Despite the back and forth between both teams, the first half ended goalless.
Edo Coaches’ hard work finally paid off in the second half courtesy of a fine finish from Larry Orungba, which gave them a hard-fought 1-0 victory against First Bank FC.
Matchday 2 actions resume Wednesday, December 11, with the defending champions, NMA FC, facing off against debutants Golden Age FC. Both teams already had their first match with NMA, earning a win and Golden Age settling for a draw.
A win for NMA will guarantee their place in the knockout stage, while a win for Golden Age will throw the group open for the survival of the fittest on the last match day of the week.
