Fervent Edet, a member of the Under 17 (Youth) Team MTN from the MOC Academy, has achieved a personal best of 10.79 seconds in the 100 m semi-finals at the University of Benin Sports Complex. This event is part of the ongoing Season 3 of the MTN Champs.
Fervent Edet, who recorded 11.94 seconds during the heat, improved significantly in the semifinals, recording 10.79 seconds, the best record for the day in the event.
His closest rival was Godgift Bariweni of Samkay Academy, Bayelsa, who recorded a time of 10.91, while Victor Ohworuadjeke of Asoro Gramma School recorded 11.10 seconds.
With the close competition between the athletes in this category, one would only wonder how exciting the finals would be.
Meanwhile, Mohammed Jimoh, a student of the International School, University of Lagos (ISL), has won the long jump boys event, recording a distance of 6.25 metres to win the gold medal.
The young champ, who also made it to the 100m finals, recorded a 12.02 second in his heat but narrowly scaled through to the Finals with a time which was slightly above his heat record.
Also, MTN Academy athlete, Onyemauwa Gift Chizoba, a 400m runner came first in her heat, recording a time of 59.30 seconds to advance to the finals of the event.
Gift who appeared unhappy with her time finished as she had better expectations, assured she’ll have a better race in the finals.
“this isn’t the best I can do. It isn’t what I expected as I know I can do better. I’m however looking forward to the finals where I know I’ll do better.”
