The Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has appointed veteran sports journalist and administrator Frank Areguame Ilaboya as Special Adviser on Grassroots Sports Mobilisation.
The appointment takes effect from October 9, 2026, according to an appointment letter dated October 9 and signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Umar Musa Ikhilor, Esq.
The letter, with reference number SGA. 15/Vol. XVIII/1116, stated that the governor had approved Ilaboya’s appointment to the position.
“His Excellency, Senator Monday Okpebholo has approved your appointment as Special Adviser to the Governor on Grassroots Sports Mobilisation with effect from October 9, 2026,” the letter read.
The appointment also entitles the SportsVille Supremo to the remunerations stipulated under the Political and Public Officers Emolument (Amendment) Law, 2023, which provides for the emoluments of elected political appointees and public office holders.
Ilaboya’s appointment is expected to bring renewed attention to grassroots sports development in Edo State, with a focus on mobilising participation and strengthening the foundations of sports across communities.
