‘Birthday boy’ Lewandoski shines as Barcelona humiliates Real Socieda

It took Robert Lewandowski just 46 seconds to score his first goal in a Barcelona shirt on his 34th birthday, left with a brace and man of the match award as FC Barcelona defeated Real Sociedad at the Reale Arena.

Lewandoski’s first goal came just 46 seconds into the game after slotting home a beautiful pass from Alejandro Balde in a trademark fashion. Alexander Isak however cancelled the lead just 5 minutes later after playing a beautiful chip over Marc Ter Stegen.

Real Sociedad did put in a good fight, critically preventing Barcelona from controlling the game, hence both teams had to settle for a level score at halftime.

In the second half, Barcelona manager, Xavi dipped into his deep bench and brought young Ansu Fati on, and the wide man made all the difference in the world, producing a pair of quickfire assists after just five minutes. Goals from Ousmane Dembele in the 66th minute, a second goal from Robert Lewandoski and a final goal from Ansu Fati ensured that the visitors go home with a very comfortable win.

The win gives Barcelona a four-point haul from their first two matches and marks a significant improvement from the season opener. Real Sociedad were left to rue a host of missed opportunities in the first half as Takefusa Kubo and David Silva should have scored with big chances.
