African School Games: Grace Osaretin Earns Nigeria Gold in Cycling

More cycling events and other competitions are still ahead, as Team Nigeria looks to build on its growing momentum and make history at the maiden edition of the African School Games

Edo-born, Godwin Osaretin Grace Friday afternoon increased Nigeria’s medal haul to 11 at the inaugural African School Games in Algeria as she stormed to the time of 1:37:02 to edge out Algeria’s home favourite Chemouni Saoussan, who finished four seconds behind at 1:37:06, in a thrilling finish to keep Team Nigeria’s impressive showing on a high pedestal.

Grace clinched gold in the Women’s cycling (road race event) on Friday, marking another milestone for the country in the continental competition.

The victory adds to Nigeria’s growing medal haul and underscores the strength and determination of the nation’s young athletes competing on African soil.

According to the Special Assistant on Media to the Director General of the National Sports Commission, Kola Daniel, Team Nigeria as of Friday, August 1, has secured a total of 11 medals, comprising 3 Gold, 4 Silver and 4 Bronze medals
