Nigeria’s Super Falcons captain, Rasheedat Ajibade, has slammed the organisers of the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations for a lack of respect for women’s football.
An angered and disappointed Rasheedat took to her Instagram handle to register her dissatisfaction at how women are being treated on the continent.
The Atlético Madrid midfielder posted a photo showing a cramped room with two single beds and limited walking space.
Ajibade furiously captioned the image: “Two professional women’s players in this kitchen-size room in a prestigious tournament (WAFCON)”. “@caf_online, @cafwomenfootball, you can do better.

She added a campaign hashtag to push her displeasure at the treatment of women’s football players. “#womensfootballdeservesbetter, #Respectwomensfootball, #valuewomensfootball”
The post has, however, gained traction online, with many expressing disappointment over what they see as a mismatch between CAF’s public commitment to supporting women’s football and the treatment of players during major tournaments.

This comes just hours after the Confederation of African Football (CAF) announced a historic increase in prize money for WAFCON 2024, doubling the winner’s earnings to USD 1 million and raising the total prize pool to USD 3.475 million.
