BCYL: We Will Approach Every Game With Strong Mentality— Ogieriakhi

Coach Austin Ogieriakhi of Namo FC is looking forward to match day 2 of the 2026 season of the Benin City Youth League against Rolly Football Club, while emphasising player development and mentality ahead of his team

Namo FC will be looking to bounce back after a narrow 1–0 defeat to Dynamo Academica in their opening match of the 2026 season.

Speaking ahead of the Match Day 2 encounter, Ogierakhi said his main ambition for the season is not just about winning matches but about developing his players into better footballers and individuals.

According to the coach, youth football should focus on growth, discipline, and understanding the game as a profession rather than just chasing results.

He explained that he wants his players to become wiser, stronger, and more disciplined by the end of the league, stressing that their football development is the most important objective of the season.

The Namo handler also noted that mindset will be key for his players as they look to improve after their opening-day loss. He said players must be mentally and physically strong, healthy, and tough, adding that once a player has the right mindset and physical condition, they will always give their best on the pitch.

Speaking about the upcoming match against Rolly FC, the coach said he is not focused on the opponent but on his own team’s performance and improvement.

He said the team will take the season one game at a time and focus on improving their performance in every match, adding that although the opponents will be tough, his team will give their best.

Ogieriakhi also stressed the importance of teamwork, noting that football is a team game and success comes when the team works together as a unit. He added that since football is played eleven versus eleven, his team has no reason to fear any opponent, as teamwork, training, and mentality will always make the difference.

When asked what he fears most in the league, the coach said he does not fear any team, explaining that all teams in the league are youth teams and no professional teams are involved. However, he admitted that some teams may be stronger than others, but insisted that in football, once it is eleven versus eleven, anything can happen.

He concluded by saying his players must develop a strong mentality and winning mindset as the season progresses.
