Betsy Obaseki Women’s Football Tournament: Milestone performances and stats from players and clubs as a journey to the quarter-finals.

The Betsy Obaseki Women’s Football Tournament quarter-finals phase takes off on Monday 12th, September 2022, across two match centres in Edo state with so much expected from giants facing off against each other.

However, let’s take a quick look at how the just concluded group stage went down based on statistics of clubs and players.

  1. Edo Queens and Delta Queens are yet to concede any goals yet.
    Edo Queens played two games and scored 10 goals, conceding none, while Delta Queens played only a game against Heartland Queens which they won 2-0 and had a walk -over Osun babes who didn’t turn up for the competition.
  2. Royaltoms International FC were the only team that failed to score in the group stage.

Despite shipping in 11 Goals in the group stage, Royaltoms International FC failed to score in the group stage, the only team that failed to do so.

  1. The least number of goals recorded by any team – Braveheart Ladies FC
  2. The number of matches lost by 4 teams – FC Robo International, Royal Queens, Naija Ratels Ladies and Heartland Queens.
  3. Number of goals conceded by four teams – Nasarawa Amazons, FC Robo International, Royal Queens and Naija Ratels

Two players scored a hat-trick on the group stage.
Yetunde Fajobi the first & Kesiena Ojiyovwi both netted thrice in the game against Royaltoms International FC & Bravehearts Ladies respectively.

  1. Number of goals conceded by Heartland Queens in the group stage.

Several points were recorded by four teams – FC Robo International, Royal Queens FC, Naija Ratels FC and Heartland Queens.

  1. Two FC Robo International Players recorded a haul each.
    Folashade Ijamilusi and Taiwo Lawal of FC Robo Queens both scored four goals each in their opening match against Bravehearts Ladies to lead the scorers to chat.
  2. Four teams are yet to drop points after the conclusion of the group stage – Nasarawa Amazons, Confluence Queens, Delta Queens (though with a match played) and Edo Queens are the only three teams who produced a perfect record in the group stage.

Nasarawa Amazons won FC Robo Queens And Bravehearts Ladies. Edo Queens mauled Royaltoms International FC and edged out Royal Queens, while Confluence Queens beat both Naija Ratels and Fortress Ladies in their first two games.

Five Players scored braces in the group stage

Five players scored braces each in the group stage. Hembafen Ayatsea, Amarachi Okoronkwo & Temitope Owoeye all of Nasarawa Amazons and Eunice Godwin, Joy Jerry of Edo Queens.

Four teams recorded six points in the group stage. They are Edo Queens, Nasarawa Amazons, Confluence Queens and Delta Queens (got three walk-over points.)

Eight NWFL Premiership teams made it to the Quarter Finals stage – Nasarawa Amazons, Edo Queens, FC Robo Queens, Heartland Queens, Naija Ratels, Confluence Queens, Royal Queens and Delta Queens all qualify for the last 8.

Edo Queens are the second most attacking team so far having scored nine in their first game against Royaltoms International FC, and one against Royal Queens.

  1. Nasarawa Amazons scored 11 goals in two group games. One against FC Robo Queens and ten against Bravehearts Ladies making them the team with the most potent attack so far.
  2. Royaltoms International FC conceded 11 goals in two games to crash out of the tournament as the team with the second worst defence.

Bravehearts Ladies Conceded 19 Goals in two games at the group stage making them the team with the worst defence at the tournament. Loads of lessons for an amateur side making their debut at a tournament.
