Boboye Faults Recruitment Policy After Insurance Draw With Rivers

Bendel Insurance head coach, Kennedy Boboye, has faulted the club’s recruitment policy, saying some players are not fit for the team’s standard.

Speaking after a goalless draw against Rivers United in Benin City, Boboye expressed frustration with his squad’s performance.

“The first players who started the attack missed some chances,” he said. “If you come in when the team is under pressure and you don’t have a big heart, it will swallow you. I’m sorry to say this, but there are some players the team is bigger than. That’s just the truth. We can’t do much until midseason, but we’ll keep pushing”.

Over nine players were announced to have signed for Insurance before the start of the season, following the departure of 25 players officially announced by the club. The club brought in new names yet, some announced and some not, the results however have been terrible with only one win this season.

The result is Bendel Insurance’s third straight draw and their sixth this season. The Benin Arsenal have now won only one of their last 11 NPFL matches (1 win, 6 draws, 4 losses).

Despite dominating possession, Bendel Insurance struggled in attack and failed to trouble Rivers United’s goalkeeper, Osagie Onisoduneya. Their best chance came in the first half, but the woodwork denied them.

With their win drought continuing, Boboye’s men have got a task to leave the relegation zone as they face Plateau United away next weekend.
