CAF CC: Amas Obasogie’s Singida Black Stars Make History

Super Eagles goalkeeper, Amas Obasogie, Saturday evening played a key role as Singida Black Stars of Tanzania got their ticket to debut in the CAF Confederation Cup group stage, platinumnewsng.com is reporting.

Amas Obasogie stood between the sticks when Singida Black Stars handed Flambeau de Centre of Burundi a 3-1 (4-2 agg) defeat to book a group stage appearance.

Having played a 1-1 draw away from home, the Singida-based side went into the game with confidence of completing the job and making their fans happy.

The first half witnessed an unbelievable stunner when the away team scored in the 26th minute courtesy of Burundian, David Irishura, then deployed a low block strategy to lock up their defence line. Amas’s heroics saves in the first half helped his side stay in the game after the forward line failed to capitalise on begging opportunities.

Not oblivious of what’s at stake, the Tigers came back into the game and Horso Muaku didn’t disappoint when called upon to the fore in the 55th minute, to level the score.

Things turned south for the visitors when they got a player sent off in the 66th minute for a terrible tackle on a Singida attacker.

The Tanzanian side pounced on the occasion and doubled the lead through Clatous Chama in the 67th minute before Idriss Diomande rounded up the rout fifteen minutes from time.

With the win, Singida Black Stars have now booked a place in this season’s CAF Confederation Cup —for the first time in the club’s 9-year history.

About Singida Black Stars
Founded as Ihefu SC in 2016, the club bounced between the Championship League and the Premier League during its first few seasons. They were promoted to the top flight for the first time in 2020 and then again after winning the second-tier championship in 2022.

In late 2023, the club was purchased by a new owner after it had fallen into a difficult financial situation. The club rebranded to Singida Black Stars FC in spring 2024. As part of the rebrand, the new club ownership relocated the club from the outskirts of Mbeya to the Singida Region.

In 2025, the club advanced to the final of the Tanzania FA Cup. A victory would have been the club’s first-ever major trophy. That season, under Kenyan manager David Ouma, the club qualified for a continental competition for the first time. With its fourth-place finish in the 2024–25 Tanzanian Premier League, the team qualified for the 2025–26 CAF Confederation Cup.
