CHAN 2023 Qualifier: Salisu Yusuf Confident Of The Team Ahead Of Ghana Clash

Head Coach of the Super Eagles B team Salisu Yusuf has expressed his confidence and satisfaction with his team’s performance ahead of their clash against the Black Galaxies of Ghana this weekend.

The home-based Eagles known as the CHAN Eagles faced Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) side Plateau United in a friendly game at the training pitch of the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja and the game ended in a one-all draw on Tuesday evening.

The veteran tactician who took the Eagles B to a second-place finish in 2018 in Morocco, expressed his delight after the match within the way the team played against the second-best NPFL side of the just concluded 2021/2022 season.

“As you can see we played everybody in the game against Plateau United, this is one of the toughest opposition we’ve played and we are happy.

“Coming from behind shows that we have character and I think that is a plus for the team because most teams when they concede cannot come back.

“The development of this team is a bit slow simply because we didn’t have more games but I think we’ve been able to put something together to get a good result.

“In the first half, we didn’t create many chances because we played with natural midfielders and in the second half we changed our pattern of play and we dominated the game,” Yusuf said.

The 60-year-old gaffer who claims to have information on the opposition believes if the Eagles can get their tactics right, the Black Galaxies of Ghana would not be a tough task.

“If you look at it statistically they (Ghana) are better than us in terms of match fitness because they’ve played some tough games but if we can put our tactics together we can get something.

“I have a little information about them, and how they play and we will try to counter them, that is why we are trying different styles of play to see which one will be suitable for the game but it all depends on the game,” he said.

The first leg of the qualifiers will be played on Sunday at the Cape Coast Stadium, Ghana, with the return leg, billed to take place at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja on September 3rd.
