Augustine Eguavoen, the former Super Eagles coach and current Technical Director of the Nigeria Football Federation, has emphasized the objective of the All-Star Committee: to select a strong lineup of players capable of achieving success on the home front, most especially for the CHAN Eagles.
The NFF Technical Director spoke during the introduction of the nine-member Committee, which is chaired by former Nigeria international Daniel Amokachi. He urged for a transparent selection process to support home-based players in CHAN competitions.
“Our Team of the Month initiative will contribute to the formation of a solid squad for the CHAN Eagles, coaches, and the technical department of the Nigeria Football Federation,” Eguavoen stated.
His hope rests with the newly established All-Star Committee, as it aims to assemble a formidable team that will enhance the quality of players within domestic leagues.
The CHAN Eagles have previously appeared three times in the African Nations Championship, with their latest qualification in 2018. Their participation was absent in the 2020 and 2022 editions.
Looking forward, plans are in motion for the eventual NPL Team of the Season to embark on a two-week sojourn in Spain following the League’s conclusion.
This venture will include friendly matches against prominent La Liga teams in 2024, paving the way for the 2024 Africa Nations Championship.
