Reuben Nker was the shining light for Edo Nigeria Medical Association in a 4-0 victory over NNPC as they won the seventh edition of the University of Benin Teaching Hospital Chief Medical Director’s Inter-Professional Football Tournament on Monday, January 1, platinumnewsng.com is reporting.


Professor Darlington Obaseki, who was always on the touchline for NMA from their first match of the tournament in the group stage, tutored the team to victory as they lifted the coveted title and won the grand prize of ₦500,000. Second and third place went home with ₦300,000 and ₦200,000 respectively.

Before the final, NNPC was aiming for a consecutive CMD Cup trophy having clinched the sixth edition about a year ago. Top striker Reuben, however, had other plans as he started scoring as early as the third minute. He went on to complete his hat trick in the 45th and 74th minute. Jersey number 7 of NMA was also on the scoresheet in the 52nd minute.

Edo NMA is now champions of the UBTH CMD Cup with today’s emphatic 4-0 victory. UNIBEN emerged in third place after UWA All Stars forfeited the third-place match. Reuben Nker finished the tournament with the Golden Boot Award, Scott Omorogbe, captain of NMA was the Most Valued Player of the tournament. Ben Paul of NMA won the Golden Glove awards. Darlington Obaseki, after coaching NMA to glory won the coach of the tournament. Olembe of NNPC was the man of the match.

Gracing the final were important dignitaries including the Governor of Edo State, His Excellency Godwin Obaseki represented by the Edo State Government Chief of Staff, Hon. Osaigbovo Iyoha, former Super Eagles coach and current technical director, Augustine Eguavoen, Vice Chairman of Edo FA, Pa Kindness Ohiowele, Coach of Bendel Insurance, Monday Odigie, Edo FA Board member, Kennedy Ugbodaga, Edo FA Ovia North East chairman, Roland Inonoje, Edo FA Oredo Chairman, Douglas Idahosa amongst others.
