Depleted Edo SWAN suffers defeat as Dominion, Crescent SC share spoils

The University of Benin Teaching Hospital Interprofessional/Veterans Cup match day one continued with seven goals recorded in games played on Sunday, December 8th.

The two games were between the University of Benin and Edo Sports Writers as well as Dominion FC and Crescent Sports Club.

Kicking off Sunday’s games was the UNIBEN FC beating a depleted Edo SWAN FC by three goals to two. The University boys took advantage of a depleted SWAN team that had only 13 players on the ground at the blast of the kick-off whistle.

The pen boys went two goals down to their opponents in the opening stage of the first half of the game. However, Harrison Omorodion netted back a brace for the team to keep them in the frame of earning a vital point — unfortunately, poor communication at the backline earned UNIBEN a late-minute goal against the resilient journalists.

The second match of the day saw Dominion FC and Crescent Sports Club share the spoils in a tightly contested. The first half, though full of opportunities, but the two sides forward had all fluffed — kudos must, however, be given to the goalkeepers for pulling some good saves as well.

The second half, however, produced two goals, one each for the two sides, to end the game in a draw.

Group C now has UNIBEN FC at the top with three points and one point apiece for Dominion FC and Crescent Sports Club, while SWAN sits at the bottom of the group with no point.

The competition continues Monday evening when UBTH FC will square up with S&T Wheelers. This game, dating back in history has so much expected from the two sides as the battle for supremacy between the two sides continues. The match is slated for 3:30 pm.
