The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) has announced Edo SWAN Football Team captain, Dr Salihu Ibrahim, as one of the recipients of the prestigious SWAN @60 Veteran Sports Journalist Award in recognition of his outstanding contributions to sports journalism in Nigeria, platinumnewsng.com is reporting.

In a letter signed by the Secretary-General of SWAN, Ikenna Okonkwo, and dated October 13, 2025, the association commended Dr Ibrahim for his “outstanding contributions, professionalism, and enduring service to the growth and integrity of sports journalism in Nigeria.”
The recognition forms part of activities lined up for the SWAN Diamond Jubilee Celebration (SWAN @60), scheduled to hold from October 29 to 31, 2025, in Abuja.
According to the letter, Dr Ibrahim’s commitment, mentorship, and passion for sports reporting have inspired generations of journalists and enriched the nation’s sporting narrative.
“As a valued pioneer and pillar of our profession, this recognition is a token of appreciation for your sacrifices and legacy in promoting excellence, fairness, and credibility in sports reporting,” the statement read in part.

The high point of the Diamond Jubilee celebration will be the SWAN @60 Award, billed for October 31, 2025, at the VIP Lounge, Package A, Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja.
Salihu Ibrahim, who hails from Edo State, is a key figure who has been in the industry for over 25 years.
The PhD holder in Mass Communication, popularly known as the “Ibracadabra of Sports”, hosts a daily sports program on 92.7, KU FM radio, Benin City, Mondays to Fridays from 8 to 9 am and 4 to 5 pm and Saturdays from 3:30 to 6:30 pm, where he also serve as the station General Manager
