Edo State Deputy Governor, Rt Hon Comrade Philip Shaibu, Tuesday joined the players and officials of Bendel lnsurance Football Club in a thanksgiving mass in celebration of their FA Cup victory.
Speaking with Journalists shortly after the thanksgiving mass, which was held at the Government House Chapel, Benin City, the Deputy Governor described Bendel Insurance Football FC’s victory as a historic feat.
“Looking at our team of today, you will notice that they are well disciplined. We have set a trajectory as against the old system of servicing itself”.
“We have been able to put a good team together that can compete with any club in the world in terms of character, off and on the field.
“Bendel Insurance is an example of strengthening an institution with its compatibility and direction. What you see today is a manifestation of what the State Government has done to revive the sports sector”.
“Our dream is to have our football teams run with less government funding by attracting private investors”.
“We have done our best as a Government and expect the private sector to do their part”.
“Bendel Insurance is now ready to storm the continent with their professionalism as the new season beckons”, Shaibu added.
The Permanent Secretary, Edo State Sports Commission, Mrs Sabina Chikere, expressed thanks to God for the successful season.
She noted that Bendel Insurance broke a 43-year record on their final match of the football season by winning the 2023 Federation Cup Trophy in grand style.
