Gateway Games: Team Edo Performance Excites Hon. Esosa Iyawe

…Charges Team to Win More

Hon. Esosa Iyawe, Member representing Oredo Federal Constituency, at the National Assembly, has registered his excitement over the performance of Team Edo athletes at the ongoing 22nd National Sports Festival tagged “Gateway Games 2024”, while commending their tenacity in the bid to break boundaries.

The state’s athletes competing in over 33 events at the festival has since won 70 medals in total comprising 9 Gold, 37 Silver and 24 Bronze medals in 6 events (Kungfu, Weightlifting, Tennis, Taekwondo, Cycling, Badminton and Aquatic), leaving them in a good position to win more in the remaining 28 ongoing events.

Hon. Engineer Iyawe, who has been keenly following the state’s progress at the 5-day-old festival, is full of joy to see the team performing well and already racking up medals.

While praising the team’s ability to the high heavens, the working Oredo representative charged the team to go for more medals to further stamp the state’s authority over others in the sporting world.

“I have been following them keenly, and with what they have won in just seven sports out of thirty-four, I’m proud to say they have done well. I’m confident in them to do more and win more than they did in the last edition in Delta State two years ago.”

“My support is behind the team, and I’m rooting for the athletes and wish them the best as the festival gets tougher.”

Engineer Iyawe, a member of the All Progressive Congress, also gave kudos to the host state, Ogun and its governor, His Excellency Dapo Abiodun, for good organisation. “I watched the opening ceremony and saw how glamorous it was with various Excellences in attendance, led by the Vice President, Kashim Shetima. I’m thrilled.”

Hon. Iyawe added by advising Team Edo to stay safe and watch out as they continue to represent the state at the ongoing festival. “Yeah, I heard of the gas explosion, and I felt a bit of unrest until I read again that the fire was out by the Fire Services and the situation was under control by the police.”

“I want to urge the athletes to stay safe and watch out as they continue to bring glory to our state.”

Team Edo on Thursday will continue from where it left off on Wednesday in pursuit of more gold medals in other events that enter the medal stage.
