With 93 days until the 34th edition of the Africa Cup of Nations, the Super Eagles of Nigeria fell to a 2-2 draw against the Green Falcons of Saudi Arabia, platinumnewsng.com is reporting.
The game, which took place on Friday evening, saw the Saudis scoring first from a set-piece, with Nigeria’s goalkeeper, Francis Uzoho, inadvertently knocking a corner kick into his own net, giving the Middle East side the lead.
Victor Boniface however led Nigeria for the equaliser with the Green Falcons goalkeeper deflecting his strike to level the scores for Jose Peseiro’s team.
And then Kelechi Iheanacho, the Leicester City forward, made an instant impact as he came off the bench to provide Nigeria with the lead after they initially fell behind.
However, in a twist of fate, the Super Eagles conceded a critical free-kick on the edge of the box deep into added time. The resulting strike deflected off a Nigerian player, ultimately securing a draw for Roberto Mancini’s side.
The Nigerian team’s preparations for the 2023 AFCON and the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers continue as they are set to face Mozambique in another friendly match on Monday.
