The Executive Chairman, Edo State Sports Commission Hon Amadin Desmond Enabulele has urged Edo athletes to let discipline be their watchword and remain focused to achieve the target set for themselves as they begin intensive training ahead of the second edition of the NigerDelta Games scheduled to kkick offon February 20, 2026, platinumnewsng is reporting.

The Edo State Sports Commission boss gave the charge on Tuesday, February 10,2026 when he
officially declared the Edo camp open and ready for the second Niger Delta Games in Benin.
Declaring the 12-day camping open for the host state athletes in GRA, Hon Enabulele told the athletes and coaches that the responsibility of Edo State to deliver nd to set a new record of achievements rests on their shoulders. He assured them that the state government has done its part by providing the resources to keep them in camp with ttop-notchfacilities and welfare.
“We are ready for the 2026 Niger Delta Games. Congratulations to you all here. Remember we have a lot of intelligence and brilliant people in our state. So for you to be selected for the task, you are already a winner. From now on you should know you are now State Ambassadors because you are representing Edo state.

“As we are in this camp, discipline must be our watchword. We have set a target for ourselves and to achieve the goals, you must be disciplined. Without discipline and commitment, it is difficult to achieve much as ssportsmenand women.
“In this particular edition of the Niger Delta Games, we are not just participating or adding to the number of teams, but we are working towards hosting to win. We can do it if we are disciplined as the host state.” Enabulele said.
Enabulele assured the athletes to expect the best treatment from the commission.”We are keeping you people in this beautiful camp for 12 days so that you are well prepared with full concentration. We have given you the best camping facilities and I want to inform you that you are getting camp allowances you have never been given because I believe in the happiness of every worker. We are giving you the best so that you can also give your best.”

“We must be ready to change the narrative this time. In previous outings, we had the highest number of silver and bronze medals. So we must do better to convert those Silver and Bronze to gold.” He urged them adding that the Athletes should be ready to set new records for the state.
Responding on behalf of Team Edo, the Head cCoachof Basketball Victor Umoru commended the chairman and his management team for the good work they have been doing. Umoru said that it is only an ungrateful person who would not appreciate what the present Edo State Sports Commission management is doing. Mr Chairman, we are grateful and we assure you that the best will come out. Winning is the only way we can reciprocate your kind gesture “.
The Edo State Sports Commission chairman with his management team also carried out an inspection of facilities being renovated for the Games. After the inspection of the Basketball and Volleyball courts at WiRoadoad and the main sports complex, the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, the chairman expressed satisfaction with the level of renovation work done by the Niger Delta Development Commission and the organisers of the Niger Delta Games Dunamis Icon Ltd.

“The facility upgrade is 90 per cent ready and we are very happy with what is on the ground. It is a part of our benefits of the Games being staged in our state. The tennis court at the Samuel Ogbemudia stadium and the indoors Halls are fully ready. The swimming pool is being maintained. We are ready “. He assured.
In their determination and commitment to ensuring adequate preparation ahead of the second Niger Delta Games, the host Edo State Sports Commission on Sunday moved their athletes for the Games into camp, to commence intensive training for the Games.
