The Nigeria Premier League (NPL) management has officially disclosed that the 2023/24 season will kick off on the 26th of August as a full league with 20 teams.

This announcement comes after careful deliberations, with the Chairman of the body, Mr. Gbenga Elegbeleye, revealing the key details.

Mr. Elegbeleye, following a crucial meeting with club owners in Abuja on Thursday night, confirmed that the upcoming season would be run in a full format, consisting of 38 matches for each team. The league matches will begin on the 26th and 27th of August, giving fans an exciting weekend of football action.

The decision to opt for a full league format was not without contemplation. The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) had initially suggested an abridged version of the league, considering the state of the nation’s economy. However, the Club Owners Association weighed the options and eventually voted in favour of running a complete league format, emphasizing their commitment to promoting a competitive and exciting season for the fans.

Preceding the league opener, the draws for the 2023/24 season and the Annual General Meeting are scheduled to take place on the 17th of August, a week before the commencement date.
