The Nigeria Premier League, organisers of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL), have decried an illegal top scorers award by some unscrupulous corporate organisations.
Chairman of the NPFL, Otunba Gbenga Elegbeleye made this observation after an Eunicell boot award was announced for the highest goal scorer in the just concluded 2024/2025 season.
While Elegbeleye appreciated the intent and value the award brings, with a proposed amount of N3.6m to the top scorer, he insisted that no organisation has the right to use the name of NPFL to give an award without recourse.
“We are going to use every legal channel to protect our assets from this ambush of the NPFL. We will write to the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission so that these illegal activities will stop once and for all”, the NPFL boss said.
Elegbeleye emphasized that the NPFL has identified the organizers of the award, insisting that the NPFL will use every legal channel to protect themselves from this ambush including writing to the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission.
He also concluded by saying that, it doesn’t matter how this illegality has been going on but it must stop because the time to get things right is now.
