Aftermath of the dramatic 1-0 victory at home against the Libyan national team. The Super Eagles were in high spirits to complete the job away from home. However, the Super Eagles pulled out of the AFCON 2025 qualifiers against Libya after their ordeal. The Nigerian National team was en route to Benghazi when their flight was diverted to Al Abraq, a small airport. The diversion left the Super Eagles players and officials stranded without food, internet access, and proper accommodation and assistance from the Libyan Football Federation for over 12 hours. Subsequently, the team left Libya and was back in Nigeria. The NFF lodged a formal complaint to the CAF about the treatment of the squad in Libya, and a CAF statement added that the matter has been referred to its disciplinary board for investigation and actions will be taken if there’s a violation of their regulations.

Shocking results crown the return of the EPL after the international break. Ten-man Arsenal dealt their first Premier League defeat of the season at the Vitality Stadium as Bournemouth triumphed 2-0. William Saliba received a red card for denying a goal-scoring opportunity after a VAR review, which allowed the host to cause an upset. Ryan Christie broke the deadlock in the 70th minute while Justin Kluivert doubled the lead from the penalty spot. Manchester United came from behind to beat Brentford 2-1 at Old Trafford and ended their winless run. Meanwhile, Liverpool returned to the top of the Premier League table as Mohammed Salah and Curtis Jones combined for the goals in their 2-0 victory against Chelsea. For Man City, John Stones’s stoppage-time header earned City their 2-1 victory at the Molineux against Wolverhampton Wanderers. City responded to Jorgen Strand Larsen’s early goal for Wolves as Josko Gvardiol equalised through his stunning strike before Stone rose to the occasion by sealing the win for City. Here are the full-time results of the games.

In the Women’s Super League, Arsenal left it late but secured a 2-0 victory over West Ham in their first match since Jonas Eidevall resigned.  Crystal Palace nearly pulled out another big shock but was held to a 1-1 draw by Liverpool. Leicester City, meanwhile, claimed their first win of the season as they edged past Everton 1-0. Chelsea had the most goals in game week five against Tottenham Hotspur, which ended 5-2. Here are all the results from game week five in the WSL.

The Confederation of African Football announced that Morocco will host the 2024 edition of the CAF Women’s Champions League. The CAFWCL will be played in Morocco between 19- 23 November. The winner of the 2024 edition will get 400,000 thousand dollars while the runners-up will take home 250,000 thousand dollars. The draws conducted placed Nigeria’s representative and Wafu B champions, Edo Queens in Group B alongside defending champions Mamelodi Sundowns of South Africa, Tutankhamun FC of Egypt and CBE FC of Ethiopia.

Elsewhere, six-time MotoGP champion Marc Marquez, after a poor start, beat championship leader Jorge Martin to win the Australian Grand Prix. Martin looked set to increase his championship lead after making a perfect start from pole position and leading for much of the laps in the race but was caught by Marquez at the closing stages of the race and swapped places a number of times in the final moments before Marquez came out on top finally. Next is the Thailand Grand Prix, which will take place at the Chang International Circuit from the 26-27 October.

It was a brilliant race for the Italian team at the US Grand Prix as Charles Leclerc won in a dominant Ferrari one-two, with Carlos Sainz second on the podium. Lando Norris overtook Max Verstappen for third but was given a five-second penalty for leaving the track while he was trying to overtake, so places were reversed. Max Verstappen came third, while Norri managed a fourth-place finish.

Jannik Sinner defeated Carlos Alcaraz 6-7 (5) 6-3 6-3 in the Six Kings Slam exhibition match to claim six million dollars. Sinner finally snapped a three-match losing streak to Alcaraz, although it won’t count in their head-to-head games.

Novak Djokovic claimed a 6-2 7-5 7-5 victory over a long-time rival, Rafael Nadal, by winning their last head-to-head singles clash at the Six Kings Slam Exhibition. Recall that Nadal announced earlier this month that he will retire after representing Spain in Malaga in November.
