Barely 37 days to the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, African football legend, Austin Jay Jay Okocha has expressed his fears over the chances of African countries at the Mundial.
Jay Jay Okocha according to megasportsmedia.com registered his fears stating this is the first time his confidence level in Africa’s representatives is at its lowest.
“It’s the first time that I’m not confident enough about Africa’s chances in the World Cup. Maybe they can surprise us and do very well.”
“If you look at Asia and North America, they look strong and a step ahead of us. This means bad news for our football.”
The former Super Eagles captain posits that the stage of African football is now nothing compared to other continents and because of that many African teams will be out of the competition after three matches.
“We were already 50 places behind South America and Europe, and now North America and Asia seem to be ahead of us. We have hopes in Senegal and Morocco, they seem the strongest.”

“Tunisia, Ghana and Cameroon seem to be a springboard for other teams to reach the knockout stages. With their current form, I’m afraid they’ll be home after three games. I hope they prove me wrong.”
The former Paris Saint-German star alongside other football legends – Germany’s Lothar Matthaüs, Brazil’s Cafu, Algeria’s Rabah Madjer, Australia’s Tim Cahill, Qatari’s Adel Ahmed MalAllah, Iran’s Ali Daei and Super Eagles coach to the 1998 World Cup, Bora Milutinovic – served as draw assistants for the FIFA 2022 World Cup in Qatar, at the Doha Exhibition and Convention Centre in the Qatari capital city, in April 2022.
