Remo Stars Hold Edo Queens to a 1-1 Draw in Benin

Remo Stars Ladies made history on Wednesday night, securing their first-ever away point in Benin with a resilient performance under the floodlights at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium.

The Sky Blue Stars put up a solid defensive display to frustrate an attacking Edo Queens side, holding them to a 1-1 draw in a thrilling NWFL Matchday 3 encounter.

The game started with both teams displaying moments of brilliance, but it was Edo Queens who dominated possession and created more goal-scoring opportunities.

Remo Stars were forced into an early substitution in the 17th minute when Akudo Ogbonna replaced Victoria Idehen after the latter picked up a knock. Despite the change, the visitors struggled to contain the relentless attacking waves from the home side.

To regain control, Remo Stars coach Wemimo Matthew introduced Kehinde Deborah for Similoluwa Okesiji, bringing much-needed stability to their midfield. However, Edo Queens’ pressure eventually paid off in added time of the first half.

A handball inside the box gifted the defending champions a penalty, which Esther Moses confidently converted, sending the goalkeeper the wrong way to give the home side a 1-0 lead at the break.

Remo Stars came out for the second half with renewed determination, and their efforts were rewarded when Bolaji Olamide capitalized on a one-on-one opportunity to slot home the equalizer.

Edo Queens coach Moses Aduku responded by making two attacking substitutions, bringing on Mamudu Mary and Olanipekun Olanike for Goodness Osigwe and Odoma Amarachi in a bid to restore their lead. However, Remo Stars’ goalkeeper Charlotte put in a stellar performance, making crucial saves to deny the hosts.

Both teams pushed for a winner in the closing stages, but their efforts were in vain as the game ended in a hard-fought 1-1 draw.

A positive result for Remo Stars Ladies, while Edo Queens will be left to rue missed chances as they drop valuable points at home.
