Rivers Angels’ prodigious forward, Peace Effiong, has dedicated her debut goal to her late mother following a standout performance in the Nigerian Women’s Premier League Premiership matchday 10 against Edo Queens. platinumnewsng.com is reporting.
The 14-year-old sensation, scouted during the mid-season break from Young Talent 99 in Lagos, has swiftly become the talk of the league with her exceptional play.
Effiong’s journey to professional football began with her debut on February 15th, 2024, against FC Robo in Port Harcourt, where she scored for Rivers Angels.
Tragically, the day after her memorable debut, Effiong faced personal loss when her mother passed away, leaving behind Peace, her two siblings, and their father. Despite the grief, Effiong’s resolve remained unshaken. She continued to shine on the field, and after scoring a crucial goal against Edo Queens in her first away match, she chose to honour her mother’s memory.
“I feel happy and excited to score today for my team in my first away match. I want to dedicate this goal to my late mum, I wish she was here, but I still thank God,” Effiong expressed, following the match against Edo Queens. Although the game did not end in Rivers Angels’ favor, Effiong remains optimistic about the team’s prospects, stating, “It was not the result we wanted, but we know that we are still going to make it to the Super Six.”
Effiong’s ambition doesn’t stop at a single goal; she’s determined to continue finding the back of the net for Rivers Angels. “I wish to score more goals if I get the chance to score, and with the help of my teammates, I know they will help me,” she confidently stated.
Rivers Anggels lost 4-1 to Edo Queens at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City. The team now sits second in Group B of the NWFL wih 19 points after the loss.
