The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced the nominees for the Women’s Player of the Year award, with Nigeria leading the pack with seven nominations, the highest representation from any country, platinumnewsng.com is reporting.
Among the Nigerian nominees are Asisat Oshoala, Uchenna Kanu, Chiamaka Nnadozie, Osinachi Ohale, Rasheedat Ajibade, Toni Payne, and Christy Ucheibe.
Nigeria boasts the most nominations in the 30-player list, with women from 12 countries in contention for the prestigious award.
Asisat Oshoala, currently playing for Barcelona, holds the title after securing the 2022 edition, marking her fifth win. Chiamaka Nnadozie earned a nomination for Women’s Goalkeeper of the Year, while Super Falcons head coach Randy Waldrum is a nominee for Coach of the Year.
In the category of Best Young Player of the Year, Deborah Abiodun, Esther Ajakaiye, and Oluwatosin Demehin represent Nigeria. Furthermore, the Super Falcons are contenders for the Women’s National Team of the Year award.
The 2023 CAF Awards ceremony will take place on December 11 in Marrakech, Morocco.
