…as invitational golf tournament ends in grand style
It was funfair at the Benin Club Golf Course, in the Edo State capital Saturday, as Engr. Kingsley Ehi Okunbo Invitational Golf Tournament organized to mark his 60th birthday came to an exciting end with the active participation of the Deputy Governor, Rt. Hon. Comrade Philip Shaibu and spouse, Mrs Maryann.
The highlight of the week-long tournament which attracted both professional and amateur golfers was the presentation of awards, gifts and prizes to winners in different categories.
At the presentation ceremony, Shaibu emerged as champion in the special guests’ category while his wife bagged the Ladies Best Gross Award.
In his remarks, the Deputy Governor described the celebrant, Engr. Kingsley Ehi Okunbo is a man with a heart of gold.
Shaibu noted that “Okunbo is not self-conceited in his world outlook.
Continuing, he said: “his garb of simplicity is partly a product of his humble and disciplined upbringing. The combination of discipline, hard work and providence have contributed to the success of his business venture”.
“Indeed, Kingsley’s life is a study in resilience. He has remained steadfast all through the years, even in the face of daunting challenges.
“Kingsley does not announce his acts of benevolence and philanthropy. Those who have benefitted from his generosity would attest to his humility in giving and sharing”, Shaibu said.
Mr. Ignatius Aigbokhaode, who joined others to organize the warm reception in honour of the celebrant, said: ” Kingsley’s love for golf made him become so rapidly a distinctive personality that earned him two-term Captain of BCGS”. Some other persons see him “as an inspiration, role model and a jolly good fellow, who has spread love and impacted lives.
