Shavik FC kicked off their campaign in the Edo Conference League with a hard-fought 1–0 victory over Genesis FC on Monday at the Iyoba Girls College, Benin City.

The game instantly came alive as a decisive moment came as early as the 7th minute when Yusuf Adeniran rose highest to head home a well-placed free-kick cross from Theophilus Osaigbovo, giving Shavik the early lead.

Following the opener, Shavik dominated possession and created several opportunities to extend their advantage but failed to convert their chances. Despite their control, Genesis grew into the game towards the end of the first half, forcing Shavik to make tactical changes.

At the start of the second half, Dexter Gold replaced Charles Bernard, while Joel Adaigbe came on for Elijah Okafor to strengthen the team’s midfield and attacking stability. The substitutions helped Shavik regain composure as they continued to push for a second goal.

However, Genesis FC refused to back down. Their persistence nearly paid off when a rebound from a free kick rattled the crossbar, a moment that left Shavik supporters holding their breath. Shavik went on to introduce Blessing Eromosele and Happiness Funmilayo for Eguaveon Christopher and Theophilus Osaigbovo to see out the result.

Despite sustained pressure from Genesis in the closing stages, Shavik’s defence held firm to secure all three points. Though wasteful in front of goal, the Egor-based side will take confidence from their opening-day performance as they prepare for their next fixture against Powerhouse FC next Saturday by 4pm.
Final Score: Shavik FC 1–0 Genesis FC
