Shavik FC pulled off a surprise victory earlier today at the Uwa Primary School Stadium, edging past Ine Stars 1-0 in a tightly contested encounter to book their place in the quarterfinals of the Bright Osayi U13 Tournament.
Coming into the fixture as underdogs, Shavik FC had to show tactical discipline throughout the match to keep their one goal lead. The breakthrough in the game came in the 14th minute when Christian Inegbenije rose highest to meet a well-delivered corner from John Ebuehi, nodding the ball past the Ine Stars goalkeeper and into the back of the net.
Despite pressure for the majority of the game from Ine Stars, Shavik’s defense held firm to secure the crucial win and a spot in the next round.
The victory is an advancement from last year’s performance, where Shavik FC were knocked out in the first round following a 3-0 defeat to Edo Young Stars.
Up next, Shavik FC will face Okuta FC in the quarterfinals next weekend. Okuta FC also earned a 1-0 win in their own fixture, overcoming Rockers to advance.
