Minister of Sports Development John Owan Enoh has commended sports journalists in the country under the aegis of the Sport Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) for their contributions to sports development in the country.
The minister received the leadership of the body in Abuja, on Tuesday. He applauded sports journalists for their willingness to be partners in the development of sports in Nigeria.
He restated his commitment to working with sports journalists to foster development in the sector, by effectively giving the media a sense of belonging.
John Enoh said “Thank you for your commitment to working together with the ministry. It matters to me and my team. Anyone who occupies this ministry knows the importance of working with the media. I am glad that through this effort, we can forge a relationship.”
“Your request to be a part of what I am doing is very important and I will do all I cannot to go wrong in that scope,” the minister added.
He stated that he will lead an open administration and transparent leadership, in the interest of sports development in collaboration with all and sundry.
“My approach to this assignment is with an open mind, that is open to all positive possibilities to enhance sports development. In the course of the work, when I find opportunities to contribute to capacity building (of the association), you will not be denied such opportunities.”
He encouraged sports journalists to shun sensationalism in their reportage and build a positive image for sports in the country.
SWAN President, Isaiah Benjamin thanked the minister for the opportunity to be a collaborator in the sports sector, as the sports writers’ body pledged their support.
Secretary of SWAN, Ikenna Okonkwo of Blueprint Newspaper officially introduced members of the association to the minister, as they restated their commitment to sports development.
