…pledges Government’s partnership for quality healthcare delivery
Edo State Deputy Governor, Rt.Hon. Comrade Philip Shaibu has pledged the government’s commitment to strengthening its partnership with the University of Benin Teaching Hospital, UBTH, for a quality and affordable healthcare delivery system.
The Deputy Governor gave the assurance in Benin City when he spoke at an event to celebrate the 50th-anniversary celebration of the hospital.
Shaibu described the anniversary as a milestone, worthy of celebration on account of medical feats and professional excellence recorded by the health institution over the years.
“The services and achievements of UBTH in the last 50 years are laudable enough for celebration”.
“The hospital has been serving the entire nation and beyond in the last 50 years of its establishment”.
“As a Government, we don’t look at UBTH as a federal institution. We see it as our institution because we’re the first beneficiaries of the facilities before the Federal Government that established it”.
“Edo State Government is very responsible and responsive in handling every government institution, whether State or Federal”.
“I have been been in constant touch with the UBTH management team to ensure we do our best in contributing to saving lives of the less privileged who are unable to pay their medical bills”.
“There are lots of people who can’t afford their medical bills; that’s why some of us who are privileged are doing our best to give back to society”.
“It is our duty as a Government to ensure UBTH lives up to expectations”, Shaibu added.
The Deputy Governor commended the Chief Medical Director, CMD of UBTH, Prof. Darlington Obaseki and his management team for their prudent management of resources, while congratulating the entire workforce on the 50th anniversary.
Speaking earlier, Prof. Darlington Obaseki, appreciated the Deputy Governor for his unflinching support for the hospital, while highlighting the numerous unsolicited and unannounced assistance from the number two citizen.
According to Prof Obaseki, the celebration proper comes up on 12th May 2023.
The CMD stated that the hospital management team has lined up a series of activities, including the subsidized surgery program, as part of the anniversary celebration.
The occasion attracted relevant stakeholders, including patients, academia, medical and health professionals.
