As the transfer season unfolds in the football world, clubs are actively seeking players who can strengthen their teams and help achieve both long-term and short-term goals. One player consistently featured in transfer discussions is Victor Osimhen, the forward for Nigeria’s Super Eagles. His talents make him a valuable asset in the pursuit of success for any team.
The captain of the Edo State chapter of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Salihu Ibrahim, has expressed concern over the rising market value of Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen, stating that the star forward is now financially out of reach for the pen pushers.
Ibracadabra, as fondly called on Monday in Benin City, lamented the rising market value of the Napoli forward, who spent last season on loan in Turkiye at Galatasaray.
“Victor Osimhen’s talent is world-class and we are proud of what he has achieved. But let’s be honest – we can’t afford Osimhen now,” Ibrahim said. “His value has skyrocketed beyond what Edo SWAN treasury can push. It highlights how far we need to show seriousness in our revenue generation.”
Osimhen, who scored over 30 goals in all competitions in Galatasaray in the just-concluded season, has, according to sources, rejected two jaw-dropping offers from the Saudi Pro League.
Ibrahim’s comments come amid growing calls for reinforcement in the team’s front line, which has been lacklustre in front of goals since 2024.
“We celebrate Osimhen as a son of the soil and we are rooting for him to do more exploits next season,” he noted.
