Yucateco Boxing League Season 2 Launches with Two-Day Seminar

The Yucateco Boxing League’s second season kicked off with an informative seminar, featuring expert speakers who shared valuable insights and knowledge with boxers from participating clubs. The comprehensive program covered various aspects of the sport, empowering participants to reach new levels of success in their boxing careers.

The two-day seminar, which commenced in Lagos on Friday, had a former Lawmaker who represented Kaduna Central Senatorial District in the 8th Assembly, Senator Shehu Sani, as the lead speaker was held at the conference room of the National Institute for Sports, National Stadium, Surulere.Director of Sports Medicine, Lagos State Sports Commission, Dr BUKOLA BOJUWOYE, Sports Marketing Expert, Ade Thompson, and Nollywood Star, Richardo Agbor, enlighten the boxers on the effects and implications of using enhancing drugs, the benefits of signing sports contracts and branding for Star Athlete.

Veteran broadcaster and Former Vice President of AIPS, Dr. Mitchell Obi, discussed the benefits of participating in a league while the Special Adviser to the Governor of Lagos State on Tourism, Arts, and Culture, Idris Aregbesola, and music star Adekunle Temitope, popularly known as Small Doctor gave a pep talk to motivate the boxers.

Discussing the topic of making champions of Nigerian youths, Senator SANI said the government at various levels pays lip service to sports development at the detriment of talented youth, who would have benefited from genuine investment in the sector.

While calling the government and corporate organizations to support the initiative, Senator SANI commended the chief executive officer of Yucateco Boxing Promotions, Omonlei Yakubu Imadu, for investing in the future of Nigerian youth through sports.The biggest boxing event for amateur athletes has revolutionized the development in Nigeria; Imadu stated that the forthcoming is bigger and better, with 12 clubs accredited to compete for the 50 million prize purse.

The YBL Season Two will be held in 12 states, with 312 boxers fighting in 13 different weight classes for male and female categories.

The top three boxers in all categories will get cash rewards with winners pocketing two million naira each. The opening ceremony and week one fights are scheduled to be held on August 2nd in Ikeja GRA.
