The Zenith Women’s Basketball League returns Tuesday, September 16, at the Indoor Sports Hall of the National Stadium, Surulere, with organisers promising a bigger, better, and more exciting season.
League sponsors, Zenith Bank, now in their 18th consecutive year of partnership, have announced a significant boost in prize money: 7.5 million for the champions, 5 million for runners-up, and 3 million for third place and Conference champions will also pocket 1 million each.
Individual brilliance will not go unnoticed, with 500,000 each set aside for the league’s MVP, highest scorer, top assister, best rebounder, and most three-pointers
Beyond the cash rewards, Zenith has rebranded the Indoor Sports Hall to create a more vibrant basketball atmosphere, especially ahead of the Final 8 showdown. League chairperson assured fans that this year’s edition “will be the best Final 8 event yet.”
In a further boost, all games will be livestreamed and televised, with results and stats uploaded directly to the FIBA app ending the era of manual recording.
The stands are also expected to be lively, with students from 20 secondary schools and several tertiary institutions across Lagos set to cheer on the athletes.
