As the countdown to the maiden edition of the Edo State Kickboxing Association Championship continues, the organisers of the event have on Monday stated the order of events of the championship.
After a closed-door meeting of the board members of the association, the State Head Coach, John Osamwonyi addressed the press. He stated that Friday 8th of September 2023 which is day one of the event, will witness coaches’ seminars, grading of fighters into weight classes/categories and medicals. He stated that the kiddie’s bouts and adult bouts will take place simultaneously. According to him, while the kids will be competing on the side of the mat, the adults will be engaging themselves in the ring.
The main fight day of the championship is on Saturday 9th September 2023 from 10 am. Fighters across 20 weight classes will participate in the championship and over 40 bouts will take place on that day.
The Chairman of the association, Mr Owen Okperigho assured that the Championship is going to be a historic one, stating that the board have set all plans in motion to host a very successful championship.
According to him, “As you can see, we are very optimistic about a very eventful programme. On our part, we’ve done everything we think we should do, the fighters are ready, and the association is ready to host this landmark event which is the first of its kind in Edo State Kickboxing.”
He also used the opportunity to call on all sports-loving men and women to take time on Saturday to enjoy top-class Kickboxing bouts.
The event is expected to take place at the multi purpose indoor sports hall of the Samuel Ogbemudia stadium, Benin City.
