NPFL24: Sporting Lagos drops Emmanuel Odafi, five others

Sporting Lagos has parted ways with Emmanuel Odafi and five others ahead of the resumption of the second stanza of the Nigeria Premier Football League, platinumnewsng.com is reporting.

This was made known via the club in a website publication announcing the mutual termination of any existing agreement.

“Sporting Lagos can confirm that six senior team players have mutually agreed to bid farewell to the Club during the January transfer window,” the statement read.

The players released are:

1. Odafi Emmanuel

2. Saturday Okon

3. Abiodun Balogun

4. Godwin Udoh

5. Onyeka Ojieh

6. Osan Mamah

The club also appreciated the efforts of the players at the club, describing Odafi as the heart of the midfield and Okon as the man with one of the club’s most popular goals.

“Odafi Emmanuel, known by fans as Isco, played a key role in the heart of the midfield for us last season, and his late goal against FC One Rocket during the playoffs proved crucial in securing us a place in the top division.

“With four goals, Saturday Okon was one of our highest goalscorers in the 2023 NNL season. His dying-minute goal against Stormers SC is one of the Club’s most popular goals, as it sealed our status as top-flight entrants.”

Balogun was described as a loyal servant with appreciation also going out to Godwin, Onyeka and Osan.

“Abiodun Balogun has been a loyal servant for the club, wearing the badge from our first-ever season, and captaining the side on numerous occasions.

“Although Godwin, Onyeka and Osan only stayed at Sporting Lagos for half a season, their presence in the dressing room and among the rest of the squad players was always a breath of fresh air,” the statement read.
