A hat trick from Osigwe Goodness and a late goal courtesy of Amarachukwu Onuorah was enough for Moses Aduku side to keep hope alive for the NWFL Premiership Super Six.
Goalless in 2024, Edo Queens changed the narrative as early as the sixth minute as Osigwe Goodness fired home for the opener. Hungry for more, Osigwe punished the porous defence of Rivers Angels in the eighth minute for the second goal.
Seeing they could score more, Moses Aduku ladies kept on applying pressure but Rivers goalie Morufa Ademola stepped up her game to deny Edo Queens on multiple occasions.
A sigh of relief came in the 23rd minute with Peace Effiong calmly finishing Sefiat Idris cross. Coach Ogbonda Whyte ladies now confident, began attacking but Ijeoma Uzoma was up to the task to deny Rivers Angels.
The second half saw Edo Queens come with more firepower and it was Osigwe completing a hat-trick in the 56th minute; this time from the spot she scored after Miracle Joseph was hacked down.
In a swift counter attack, Amarachukwu Onuorah crowned the victory with the fourth goal for the girls in yellow.
This is Edo Queens first win in 2024. With 18 points, the ladies are now placed third in the NWFL Premiership.
