English League One Side Crawley Town have signed Super Eagles defender Tanimu Benjamin from Tanzanian side, Singida Black Stars after the two clubs agreed on a deal worth $850,000.
The 22-year-old has agreed on a contract until the summer of 2026 with an option to extend for one year with The Reds.
This was made known by Singida Black Stars in a statement by the Chief Executive Officer of the club, Jonathan M. Kassano on August 30th.
“Our club has entered into an agreement with the CRAWLEY TOWN FC club in the UK that participates in LEAGUE ONE to sell our Nigerian player BENJAMIN TANIMU.”
“The agreement, with a direct transfer fee (Direct Fee) and a Sell-on Fee of 20%, as well as fees for the quality and success of the player and the team for the next two seasons, is estimated at not less than $850,000.”
“This business goes hand in hand with opening cooperation between our two clubs for the development of football.”
“Benjamin Tanimu has already gone to England to start his duties with his new team, so the management of Singida Black Stars Club wishes our player good success in his new life in England.”
Benjamin came through the ranks of Eagle Wings before joining Bendel Insurance in 2018.
Following a successful six-year spell, in which he won the Nigeria National League (Second tier) and the Nigeria Federation Cup, he moved to Singida BS (formerly Ihefu Sports Club) for an undisclosed fee rumoured to be around $70,000.
He has three caps for Nigeria and made his Super Eagles debut in a 2-1 international friendly win against Ghana earlier this year.
