In one of its moves to maintain consistency in the Nigeria Premier Football League, Chairman of Nigeria Premier League, Hon. Gbenga Elegbeleye has announced August 22, 2025, as the official start date for the 2025/26 season, with the new season set to wrap up on May 24, 2026, platinumnewsng.com is reporting.
NPFL Chairman Hon. Gbenga Elegbeleye revealed the dates during a media briefing session in Abuja, echoing the league’s commitment to maintaining a structured calendar. “This is to maintain a calendar we have now established from last season.”
The recently concluded 2024/25 campaign began as planned on the 31st of August and finished on May 25, 2025.
“For the first time in many years, perhaps since the start of the new era of the Nigerian Premier Football League in 2005, twenty years ago, a date for kickoff and ending was faithfully implemented. That is a commitment we made and a promise delivered.” He noted.

Remo Stars were crowned champions with three games left, sealing the title after their Matchday 35 win over Niger Tornadoes on April 27.
The season had 380 matches, 784 goals, and standout individual performances, including Anas Yusuf’s 18-goal haul for Nasarawa United.
Stats included 286 wins, 94 draws, 60 penalties with 16 missed, 13 own goals, and 4 hat tricks. Anas Yusuf had 2 of the four hattricks, while the remaining two were by Isaac Saviour of Rangers and Amadu Liman.
Disciplinary records showed 1,380 yellow cards and 56 reds.
Hon. Gbenga pointed out the league’s growing media presence, with StarTimes broadcasting 188 games live, while Propel streamed over 200, expanding access and engagement.
