Olympic Spirit Ignites as Enabulele Leads Hundreds in 2025 Olympic Day Run

The spirit of unity, perseverance, and global solidarity came alive this morning as hundreds of enthusiastic runners gathered to participate in the 2025 Olympic Day Run, hosted by the Edo State Sports Commission.

Declaring the event open, the Chairman of the Sports Commission, Hon. Desmond Amadin Enabulele, delivered an inspiring address that emphasised the core values of the Olympic Movement—excellence, friendship, and respect. He highlighted that the Olympic Day is not merely a celebration of sport, but a global reminder of its power to unite people across borders, backgrounds, and abilities.

“Today, people in more than 150 countries are running in the name of these values,” the Chairman said. “And we are proud to join them.”

The Olympic Day Run, he noted, is not about competition, but participation and inclusivity. From young children to senior citizens, amateur joggers to trained athletes, the event drew a diverse mix of participants—all running not for medals, but for the joy of movement and the message of peace.

Organised in partnership with several sponsors and volunteer groups, the event saw a vibrant display of energy and community spirit. Participants donned Olympic Day T-shirts, waving flags and chanting songs as they completed their routes under a clear morning sky.

The Chairman expressed gratitude to the event’s partners, volunteers, and most importantly, the runners, stating that their presence was a testament to their commitment to health, sportsmanship, and unity.

“As we begin this run today,” he declared, “let’s carry forward the Olympic flame in our hearts—a flame that burns for peace, for perseverance, and for the belief that through sport, we can build a better and more inclusive world.”

With those words, the Olympic Day Run was officially flagged off, marking another chapter in Nigeria’s growing contribution to the global Olympic spirit.
