2025 ECL: Friday Asata Shines as Worshippers FC win big, Etete FA, Rangers grab wins in tournament opening day.

Friday Asata of Worshippers FC scored two goals in two minutes to earn a man of the match award as his team swept past Elite Babel FC 4-0 in a statement win in the opening day of the Edo Conference league at the Iyoba girls college football pitch, Platinumnewsng.com gmis reporting.

The Rolly FC attacker who’s on Loan to Worshippers FC was the cynosure of all eyes on Saturday when he scored two beautiful goals in the 33rd and 34th minutes of the game against Elite Babel FC after Monday Ayo had pushed the Pastors boys ahead in the 15th minute.

Despite Elite Babel FC’s efforts to pull a goal back to come back into the game, Worshippers FC kept their opponents at bay and finally took the game beyond every possible reach of their opponents in the 71st minute when James Gbamire dribbled past 3 defenders and placed the ball in the bottom right corner.

Earlier, in the first game of the day, it was a total thrill and drama when Etete FA and Living Voices FC threatened dignitaries and spectators with a 5-goal thriller that went in favour of Etete FA.

Yahaya Frank had opened the scoring for Living Voices FC in the 35th minute before Ebube Ogbugu equalised for Etete FA with a header 3 minutes after returning from the break. James Godwin again put Living Voices in front in the 65th minute before Abraham Goday restored parity once again for the boys from Etete. Omolehin Bamidele scored the eventual winning goal for Etete FA just a minute after regulation time.

Powerhouse FC and Rangers FC of Benin were also in action in the second game of the day. Rangers FC won 2-1 in a pulsating game. Rangers had scored a goal each in either half of the game, Courtesy of Godwill Eromosele and Pedro Ugbo in the 12th and 55th minutes, respectively, before Precious Odion pulled one back from the spot seconds away from the final whistle.

The opening ceremony of the league witnessed dignitaries from all walks of life honouring the event. Amongst the numerous dignitaries were members from the Edo State Football Association, with the Chairman, Mr Fred Newton Erhunwensee, leading the team.
