Edo State Government has slammed a three months suspension on three heads of local government administration (HOLGA) for what it described as “negligence of duty”.
These are Chris Ize-Iyamu Owan East; JD Igeleke, Igueben and Ademola Shaibu, Owan West.
The suspension was announced in Benin City Wednesday by Deputy Governor Rt. Hon. Comrade Philip Shaibu shortly after a brief meeting with the eighteen HOLGAS in his office at the government house Benin City.
Their suspension takes immediate effect.
According to the Deputy Governor, the “sins” of the suspended HOLGAS was that they allow heavy-duty trucks to pass through their domain thereby destroying the road.
Shaibu described their action as”gross negligence of duty”. He said he had repeatedly warned the HOLGAS not to allow heavy-duty trucks to destroy the road and render them impassable by other road users.
The Deputy Governor lamented that heavy-duty trucks have rendered the entire Auchi, Owan East, Owan West, and Iruekpen axis impassable by road users.
He said Government has repeatedly done palliative on this axis to serve as an alternative route to the Benin Ekpoma Auchi road to alleviate the suffering of commuters.
He however lamented that the negligence of these HOLGAS has thwarted this government effort by the government.
For Igueben’s local government, the HOLGA was alleged to have turned a blind eye as heavy-duty trucks destroy the Igueben Uromi road by East-bound heavy-duty trucks.
