The Chairman of the National Sports Commission (NSC), Shehu Dikko, has reaffirmed that the Federal Government has concluded arrangements for the redemption of presidential rewards promised to members of Nigeria’s senior women national teams — the Super Falcons and D’Tigress, Platinum News is reporting.
The rewards include national honours of Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON), a three-bedroom flat each at the Renewed Hope Housing Estate in Abuja, and cash bonuses equivalent to $100,000 for players and $50,000 for coaches and officials.
Dikko, responding to a tweet made by Veteran Sports Journalist, Osasu Obayiuwana Esq, who tweeted at 7:26 am on Tuesday, February 24th, 2026 that “As of today, February 24th 2026, the @NGSuper_Falcons players, coaches & back room staff are yet to receive the reward @officialABAT announced in July last year for winning the #WAFCON. #Nigerians, hold @NigeriaGov to account and ask why this is the case. Have a lovely day!”
In another tweet at 5:22 pm, the same day, Osasu Obayiuwana wrote out the statement made by the NSC chairman in response to his earlier post, detailing the steps taken so far on getting the girls’ titles, houses and funds across to them.
Dikko disclosed that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had approved the redemption of the awards since last year and directed the relevant government agencies to process them accordingly.
According to him, the Minister of Special Duties and Inter-Governmental Affairs has been mandated to issue the national honours, while the Minister of Housing and Urban Development is to facilitate the allocation of the housing units. The Minister of Finance and the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation were directed to process and pay the cash rewards directly into the verified accounts of the beneficiaries.
The NSC Chairman also confirmed that the national award certificates have already been issued and are currently in the commission’s possession for onward distribution. He added that allocation letters and title documents for the three-bedroom flats have also been processed and are with the NSC.
On the monetary rewards, Dikko stated that the payments have been processed by the Federal Ministry of Finance and are presently with the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation for final disbursement.

He further assured that players and officials would receive their national award certificates and housing title documents when they regroup for their next major tournaments — the upcoming World Cup qualifiers in France for D’Tigress and the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco for the Super Falcons, both scheduled to commence in March 2026.
Dikko noted that the Office of the Accountant-General has been duly notified and is working to ensure that all payments are completed before the teams regroup. He added that the players and officials have been kept informed throughout the process, with images of the houses and documents already shared with some of them, while team secretaries have seen the documents to update the beneficiaries.
