The inaugural Edo Elite Super League got off to an exciting start on Friday, July 10, 2026, at the NIPOST Field in Egor, Benin City, with three entertaining fixtures producing two victories and a draw, Platinum News is reporting.
The opening match of the competition was played under heavy rainfall as Konstanz Dike Foundation defeated Light FC 2-0 in a fiercely contested encounter.

Despite the difficult playing conditions caused by the downpour, both teams produced an end-to-end contest with chances at either end. Konstanz Dike Foundation eventually broke the deadlock in the 32nd minute when Azubuike Clinton calmly finished off a well-worked move, connecting brilliantly with Nelson Obadiaru’s pass. The strike not only gave his side a deserved lead but also earned Azubuike the honour of becoming the first-ever goalscorer in the history of the Edo Elite Super League.
The second goal arrived in the 58th minute under unfortunate circumstances for Light FC. Defender Sunny turned the ball into his own net after a dangerous delivery took a wicked deflection on the slippery, rain-soaked pitch, sealing a comfortable 2-0 victory for Konstanz Dike Foundation.

The second fixture between Braveheart FC and Shavik FC ended in a goalless draw.
Although Shavik FC entered the contest as favourites, Braveheart FC, guided by coach Osazee Vincent, produced a disciplined and spirited performance. Rather than sitting back, the youthful side matched their more fancied opponents throughout the game and created several promising attacking moves.

Shavik FC, however, will rue a host of missed opportunities, as their forwards failed to convert numerous clear-cut chances in both halves, allowing Braveheart FC to earn a well-deserved point.

In the day’s final fixture, Delight FC recorded an impressive 2-0 victory over St. Andrew Foundation FC.
Lucky Nuka gave Delight FC the lead in the 29th minute with a composed finish before Dennis Akintola doubled the advantage in the 65th minute, sending the goalkeeper the wrong way from the spot to put the result beyond doubt.

Both teams created several scoring opportunities in the game, but for good goalkeepers, the scoreline remained respectable. The match also featured outstanding goalkeeping displays at both ends, as the shot-stoppers produced several fine saves to keep the scoreline respectable.

The opening weekend of the Edo Elite Super League showcased the quality, competitiveness and promising talents within grassroots football in Edo State, setting the stage for an exciting inaugural season. Attention now shifts to week two with football agents and scouts expected from clubs in the domestic leagues across the country, according to information disclosed to Platinum News.
