The National Institute for Sports (NIS) has resumed full academic activities for its Basic Certificate Course across three strategic training centres in Nigeria, marking another milestone in the ongoing reforms under the leadership of Director General and Chief Executive Officer, Rt. Hon. Comrade Philip Shaibu.
In a statement signed by the S. A. Media, Office of the Director General and Chief Executive Officer, National Institute for Sports, Ben Ogbemudia, the programme is currently running simultaneously at the South-South Centre in Edo State, the North-West Centre in Kaduna State, and the Athletes Development Centre (ADC) in Abuja, reinforcing the Institute’s commitment to expanding access to quality sports education and professional training nationwide.
The resumption of the Basic Certificate Course is expected to provide aspiring coaches, sports administrators, physical education instructors, and other sports professionals with the knowledge and practical skills required to meet international standards in sports development.
According to the management of the Institute, the restoration of academic activities represents a significant step in the ongoing effort to revitalise sports education and produce a new generation of competent professionals capable of contributing to the growth and development of Nigerian sports.
Since assuming office, Philip Shaibu has initiated a series of reforms aimed at repositioning the National Institute for Sports as a leading centre for sports education, research, and professional development in Nigeria.
The Institute noted that with academic activities now fully operational across the three centres, more Nigerians will have access to professional sports training, while the NIS continues to fulfil its mandate of developing the skilled workforce needed to sustain the country’s success in sports at both national and international levels.
