The Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF) has officially released the guidelines, modalities and comprehensive electoral timeline for its 2026 Elective Congress, scheduled to be held on October 15, 2026, in Abuja.

The highly anticipated election follows the resolutions of the NBBF Extraordinary Congress held on September 26 in Yola, Adamawa State, where a seven-member Electoral Committee was constituted to oversee the process.

The committee is chaired by Dr Lanre Glover, while a three-member Appeals Committee was also established to handle petitions and appeals arising from the electoral process.

To further strengthen the credibility and transparency of the elections, representatives of the International Basketball Federation (FIBA), Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC), and National Sports Commission (NSC) are expected to observe the exercise.

NBBF Board to Feature Broad Representation
In line with Article 21 of the NBBF Statutes (2019), the newly elected Executive Board will comprise a President, Vice-President and six zonal representatives.

The board will also include statutory representatives from the Referees and Coaches Associations, as well as representatives of the Players’ Union, Military and Paramilitary organisations, Corporate Sponsors, Continental and International Boards, NAWIS and NAPHER.

The structure is designed to ensure broad representation across key stakeholders in Nigerian basketball.

The October 15 NBBF Elective Congress in Abuja is expected to usher in a new Executive Board that will be responsible for directing the affairs and development of Nigerian basketball during the next administrative cycle.

The election marks a significant moment for Nigerian basketball, with stakeholders set to choose the leadership that will shape the federation’s programmes, administration and growth in the years ahead.
