It’s the end of Eight Years of transformative service by Engineer Musa Kida as President of the Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF), who formally stepped down on Thursday, October 15, 2026, having driven the affairs of the game through groundbreaking achievements and continent-spanning glory.
Delivering his farewell address during the 2026 NBBF Elective Congress at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre in Abuja, Kida expressed deep gratitude to stakeholders, players, and fans who supported his administration throughout his leadership.
Reflecting on his time at the helm, Kida pointed to the extraordinary trajectory of the national women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, as the crowning jewel of his administration. Under his stewardship, D’Tigress consistently elevated African basketball on the global stage—a trail of dominance that earned the team widespread acclaim and historic presidential recognition.
“D’Tigress put Africa firmly on the world map, making it seamless for their remarkable sacrifices to attract presidential rewards,” Kida noted, celebrating the team’s historic feats as a testament to what structured support and determination can achieve.
Looking ahead, the outgoing president expressed utmost confidence in the future of Nigerian basketball, urging the incoming executive board to build upon the foundation laid over the past years.
”I believe the new board will do even better than we did, leveraging the success and momentum of the outgoing administration to take the sport to even greater heights,” he stated.
The 2026 Elective Congress ushers in a new executive board tasked with steering the country’s basketball federation into its next chapter, carrying forward the strong momentum left in Kida’s wake.
